Advice has been issued for dealing with the effects of Brown Tailed Moth caterpillars.

The tiny hairs of the caterpillar can be an irritant. So people are advised to avoid coming in to contact with them.

Anyone who does get caterpillar hairs on their skin should wash the area with warm soapy water.

People who suffer from asthma may be particularly prone to the effects of airborne hairs.

If symptoms or irritation persists then medical attention should be sought.

If residents have any concerns about these caterpillars in their gardens they should contact a registered pest control company.
