Minister’s calls to halt wind farms win local support

The government energy minister’s call to prevent wind turbines being ‘imposed’ on local communities has won unanimous support from the district and county councils.
John Hayes MP has said ‘enough is enough’ and demanded a halt to the unrestrained invasion of wind farms across the UK.
Lincolnshire County Council’s executive member for environment services Coun Eddy Poll said it was ‘heartening to have a senior minister in tune with what people think’, which echoes the council’s own tough stance on wind farms.
He said: “This is an issue the county council has been concerned about for some time.
“We’re not calling for a blanket ban on wind farms - we have a duty to protect the environment and are in favour of renewable energy, however, there’s been an invasion of wind farms across Lincolnshire in recent years, and we can’t ignore the impact this is having.”
East Lindsey District Council’ portfolio holder for economic regeneration has also voiced his support to the minister’s comments.
He said: ““East Lindsey District Council has always taken a robust stance with any on-shore wind proposals that would impact harmfully upon the character and appearance of our valued landscape and our residents.
“John Hayes’ comments appear to signal a change in direction from the government which we welcome. This council is spending hundreds of thousands of pounds of taxpayers’ money each year to defend its planning decisions against energy giants and what needs to happen now is that central government policies are changed to reflect this new direction.”
