Elderly car driver who died in M1 crash is named

The driver of a car who died in a collision on the M1 on Monday has been named.

Albert Kenneth Newman, 87, of Nottingham, died when the blue Mazda Premacy he was travelling in was involved in a collision near to junction 24 of the southbound carriageway.

The incident happened at around 2am on Monday and also involved a white Ford Transit van. Police would not provide details about where in Nottinghamshire Mr Newman was from.

Michael Joesph William Luciw, 27, from Stapleford, who was a passenger in the van, also died in the collision.

The driver of the van was taken to the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham where he remains in a stable condition.
