A family owned egg producer from Alford has won a prestigious national award for transforming the business.
LJ Fairburn & Son beat off competition from major corporates to be crowned winners of the IGD Business Transformation Award 2014.
The company was one of four finalists at the award ceremony hosted by TV presenter Gabby Logan earlier this month in London.
The accolade was achieved after LJ Fairburn left its distributor to market its eggs independently. In the 12 months since, Fairburn’s has secured contracts with five major retailers ASDA, Aldi, The Co-op, Iceland and Sainsbury’s. Now one of the largest shell egg producers in the country, the business supplies more than 10 million eggs weekly. Sales have risen 46 per cent and estimated turnover by the year end is £45 million.
Managing director Daniel Fairburn said: “We are all absolutely overwhelmed and honoured to have been given this opportunity and to leave as the winners of business transformation, is one of our biggest achievements.”
