A pre-school in Skegness has come top of the class in a national awards scheme recognising the best in UK childcare and early years education.
Little Learners Pre-School, in Lincoln Road, has been named Pre-School of the Year in the Nursery World Awards 2014.
The annual awards, now in its seventh year, was recently held at The Brewery, in London.
Judges praised Little Learners Pre-School for turning ‘theory into practice to provide children with stimulating experiences and innovative learning opportunities’.
The achievement is made even more remarkable in that the setting has been open for less than a year, launching in November 2013.
In that time, the pre-school has also received an ‘outstanding’ rating from the Government’s education watchdog, Ofsted.
And this is not the first honour for the Little Learners family, with Little Learners Nursery School, in Lumley Road, Skegness, winning Nursery of the Year in the Nursery World Awards 2010.
Marie Walker, owner and manager of the two settings, put the success down to ‘passion, commitment and just love for early years’.
Of the latest honour, she said: “It feels amazing.”
In selecting Little Learners Pre-School as this year’s winner, judges pointed to a number of facilities and initiatives at the site.
These included its garden room, water therapy room, sensory room, allotment, - which is used by pre-schoolers to grow vegetables to be used for nursery meals - ‘floor book’ which allows children to record their ideas, and visits to such community facilities as the library, pet shop, the park, theatre and local museum.
