Rising levels of attainment and high standards of teaching have helped a primary school improve from ‘satisfactory’ to ‘good’ in its latest Ofsted inspection.
Pupils, parents and governors at the Richmond School, Skegness, have welcomed the report, which praises pupil behaviour, above average reading and maths skills and successes tackling areas of weakness.
Head teacher Anne Fisher said: “The grading of good in all four areas inspected is a credit to the hard work of all members of staff and also to our pupils, parents carers and the governing body.”
Lead inspector Keith Williams praised Mrs Fisher, her staff and the governing body for working together to achieve improvements in teaching, attainment and pupils’ spiritual, moral social and cultural development. He said: “Pupils enjoy school, feel safe and behave well. Pupils’ positive attitudes to learning and to school in general help lessons to run smoothly and have contributed to the school’s improvement,
“They are invariably keen and eager to learn and show high levels of respect to other pupils and adults alike.
“Pupils read confidently and widely and use their literacy and numeracy well to help them learn in other subjects.”
Year six pupil Joshua Williams said: “We are taught how to take responsibility for ourselves and younger members of the school.”
And Charlie Sanders, also in year six, added: “We are always challenged to achieve the best of our ability.”
The report also praises the ‘well-pitched extra adult support’ offered to disabled and special educational needs students , which provides them ‘equal opportunity to succeed.
To become an ‘outstanding’ school, Mr Williams recommended improving writing skills, stretching the more able students and providing clearer feedback to parents on their child’s progress.
