Australian cricket legend Shane Warne has put Skegness Grammar School students in a spin.
The students enjoyed a session with the spin bowler, while on a school trip.
The cricketing ace worked with Matthew O’Dare and Liam Taylor to improve their batting and bowling skills.
A total of 10 promising students from across the David Ross Education Trust went to Lord’s to see the ground and be coached by one of the most prolific bowlers in Test history.
Having really enjoyed the experience, Matthew said: “We were really fortunate to go to Lord’s to have a cricketing masterclass with Australian legend Shane Warne,”
The day started off with lunch at the Lord’s Tavern.
From there, they went to the MCC training academy.
“First of all we warmed up and then Shane came in and instructed us to bowl a few balls just to see what we were capable of,” said Matthew.
“After bowling and batting at one another, we faced Merlin, the bowling machine, and batted to see who the best was.”
Warne said: “I think we all had a great session, and it was a lot of fun. There was some real talent and I hope that they all continue to play and enjoy their cricket.”
Jo Robinson, the David Ross Education Trust’s sports development manager, said: “It was an incredible day. Shane is a really down to earth guy and made all the students feel at ease.
“Experiences such as this motivate and improve aspiring cricketers such as Matthew and Liam. Hopefully, it will help them to become the cricketing stars of the future.
