Tourism businesses along the East Coast are being given the opportunity to take part in value training to further equip staff with essential hospitality skills.

Designed to help local businesses get ready for a bumper summer season, the training, developed by SkillsReach and run by First College, ranges from kitchen skills and food safety through to emergency first aid, health and safety, hospitality customer service and bar/entertainment licensing.

Options also include nationally recognised qualifications targeted at the hospitality industry. The training will run from February 25, to March 20 and the full schedule can be found by visiting www.lincolnshirecoast.biz

The training programme, open to businesses in East Lindsey has been developed by SkillsReach, a Lincolnshire-based specialist skills development company, and supported by Visit East Lincolnshire and East Lindsey District Council as part of their local skills investment programme.

The 2014 programme follows a successful pilot scheme that was run last year. Known as the Hospitality Essential Skills programme, it has been developed in partnership with local businesses, so the topics reflect the priorities they have identified for improving workforce skills in preparing for the 2014 season.

East Lindsey District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Economic Development, Councillor Craig Leyland, said: “As we look forward to the 2014 season, now is the perfect time to take advantage of this wide range of courses, to further enhance the skills of existing employees, or equip new employees with the skills they will need to help your business thrive through the summer months.”

David Honman of Coastfields Leisure and Visit East Lincolnshire Business Skills Lead added: “Local tourism businesses and their staff can raise their game by learning key skills from these great value, local, short courses designed to support their preparation for the season ahead and to enhance the holiday experience for our visitors.”

Roy Harper of SkillsReach works with Visit East Lincolnshire. He said: “We’re fortunate to have secured further backing which means that local businesses are being given access to tailored training at excellent rates.”

Any business interested in taking part can contact Wesley Everton at First College on 01754 610197.
