Students and staff at John Spendluffe Technology College in Alford are celebrating GCSE success with record breaking results .

There was delight as the results came in with the college reporting the highest achievement in its history.

All at the college were proud as this success comes against the background of increased rigour in examinations nationally. Around 60 per cent of students achieved 5 A*-C GCSE grades including English and Maths - evidence of the hard work and commitment of the students, staff and parents.

Headteacher Steven Beverley said: “In all key measures these are brilliant results and there were huge successes in individual subjects including strong performances in both English and maths. Other GCSE courses, including the sciences, technology, arts and humanities enjoyed considerable success, reflecting the importance we attach to depth and breadth in our curriculum.

“Once again 100 per cent of students achieved recognised GCSE qualifications. We are proud that the basis of our results is achieved in rigorous GCSE subjects, with many of our students achieving 5 A*-C grades including English and mathematics simply through GCSEs alone. Students at the school take quality vocational courses to enhance our strong GCSE curriculum where appropriate and results in these courses were equally as impressive.

“News of the excellent results adds further to the positive atmosphere at the school following last year’s highly successful Ofsted inspection. With the million pound plus investment on site, and an official opening of new facilities due in September there is much to look forward to.”

Outstanding achievers include:

Ellen Paice (11 GCSE passes, all at A*-B grade)

Sophie Harrison (11 GCSE passes, all at A*-B grade)

Brooke Brocklesby (11 GCSE passes at C grade or above, including 6 at A or A*)

Ben Clark (11 GCSE passes at C grade or above, including 5 at A or A*)
