A THREE-DAY extravaganza of festivities in celebration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee will be taking place in East Keal this weekend.
The village’s jubilee committee expect more than a thousand visitors to enjoy its action packed programme of events taking place between Saturday and Monday.
Committee chairman David Dines said: “There’s a lot of things happening that I think will create interest for the villagers and people from outside too - it’s going to be tremendous.”
On Saturday at 2pm East Keal gardening club have invited green-fingered villagers to a re-planting and design session at the village war memorial.
Then at 7pm there will be a Jubilee quiz at Craycroft Village Hall with tables of four costing £10 including refreshments. For tickets contact Jean or Pat on 01790 752236.
Keeping the celebrations going into the Sunday will be an arts, crafts and plant fair at St Helens Church, East Keal from 11am to 4pm where there will be stalls displaying and selling pottery, photography, flower arrangements and much more as well as a tombola, music and refreshments.
The festivities will continue in the church at same time on Monday when there will also be an eight mile circular walk beginning at 10am from the church field car park, expected to return at approximately 2pm.
Families, dog-walkers and ramblers of all ages are warmly invited and encouraged to bring a picnic lunch and sensible shoes.
A hog-roast and barn dance will be topping of the village’s Jubilee merriment on Monday evening from 7pm until midnight, featuring Tony Orme’s jazz band at Manor Farm, Main Road, East Keal.
A grand raffle featuring £40 worth of prizes will be drawn at 9.30pm, with tickets available on the night and at outlets throughout the village.
Funds generated through ticket sales will be reinvested in village projects.
Tickets cost £10 and include a hog, burger or sausage bap and children under 12 enter free.
Guests are required to bring their own drinks and tables and chairs if possible.
