DRAMATIC pictures have emerged of fire and rescue crews in action after the Surf Rider accident at Bottons Pleasure Beach in Skegness yesterday (Tuesday, August 30).

These images from Standard photogapher Stephen G Willmer, show the moment rescue crews lifted terrified riders to safety after the Surf Rider partially collapsed yesterday afternoon.

Twenty-two people were trapped on the ride when it partially collapsed at around 3.15pm on Tuesday, August 30.

Twenty-two people were onboard the ride at the time of the accident. Seven of these suffered neck and back injuries consistent with whiplash from the force of the impact.

There are conflicting reports as to the severity of the injuries. Police stated again this morning that the injured were described as “walking wounded”, although witnesses at the scene believe one fo the injured was unconscious on a stretcher. Various media outlets, including the BBC, have also reported that one rider suffered serious head injuries.

Bottons remains partially closed this morning. The indoor amusement arcades were open at miday, but the funfair remained cordoned off while Health & Safety Executive staff conducted an investigation at the scene.
