A MAN whose arts skills have thrilled and delighted shoppers of all ages in Skegness for years has won a UK-wide award.

Creating many different displays and thinking up excellent ideas for events paid off for the Hildreds Shopping Centre’s deputy manager, Steve Andrews, who won the title of Marketing Manager of the Year at the annual SCEPTRE Awards which honour the best people in the shopping centre industry.

Local people and visitors to Skegness will have seen Steve’s handcrafted displays which coincide with the unique events the centre holds throughout the year. The judges were impressed by his imaginative approach to marketing which, in 2011, helped the centre increase footfall by 3.1 per cent.

Centre manager at the Hildreds, Pete Roffe, said: “I am really pleased that Steve’s hard work has been recognised by the industry. We receive so many encouraging comments from shoppers and visitors and in the past other shopping centres have asked Steve to send them his displays when we’ve finished our events, which is brilliant!”

Steve, who has been working at the Hildreds for 23 years, picked up the award at a ceremony in the Dorchester Hotel, London.

Steve said: “I am honoured to have been presented with this award. I really enjoy thinking up new and exciting ideas, implementing them and creating the visual displays around them.”
