Developers behind plans to relocate Skegness Town and develop their old ground say they have had a ‘phenomenal response’ since launching the scheme.

Following the announcement of plans by the club to relocate from their current Burgh Road site, developers Quora held a community consultation event to show members of the public plans for the old ground.

Richard Wherry, director for Quora, said that following pre-application consultation they had received ‘a phenomenal response’ to the proposals at Burgh Road and Wainfleet Road, with 97 per cent of responses in support of them.

More than 100 people attended the community consultation event on January 28 at Skegness Town’s club house on Burgh Road.

The Burgh Road proposals will include a mixed-use development incorporating retail and leisure uses.

The development is set to be anchored by Aldi and Marstons, a food-led family public house, and detailed discussions with a number of other retailers are taking place, confirmed developers.

The proposals will create up to 200 new jobs for the local area.

The proposals at the Burgh Road site will fund Skegness Town FC’s move to new grounds at Wainfleet Road, which include the investment in new first and second team pitches as well as a new 3G pitch that will be available to local sporting clubs for community use.

The Wainfleet Road proposals also include an additional clubhouse and spectator stands.

The developers say the planning application will be submitted shortly following Quora’s extensive work with Skegness Town FC, Skegness Rugby Club, Skegness Sports Association and Lincolnshire FA who fully support the proposals.
