A Skegness dental surgery is to offer the public free mouth cancer screening.
The team at Clark Dental Studio Ltd is holding the free screenings to coincide with Mouth Cancer Action Month - and will be checking for symptoms of a disease that, without early detection, could claim 30,000 lives over the next decade.
Mouth Cancer Action Month runs throughout November and is an annual campaign organised by the British Dental Health Foundation sponsored and supported by Denplan to help raise awareness of the symptoms and those most at risk.
“As well over half the population received a dental examination in the last two years, dental teams are in the ideal position to share information about the risks and symptoms of mouth cancer with their patients,” said Julian Clark.
“With this in mind we are welcoming both existing patients and new patients of Clark Dental Studio Ltd for a free mouth cancer screening to be held on Friday, November 15 from 9am to noon at 36 Algitha Road, Skegness.
“The check-up will involve a *soft tissue check as well as discussing any concerns the patient may have such as mouth ulcers that haven’t healed within three weeks, red or white patches or other unusual lumps or swellings in their mouth.”
“It is well documented that early detection saves lives,” added Dr Nigel Carter OBE, Chief Executive of the British Dental Health Foundation.
“That is why we are extremely grateful that Clark Dental Studio Ltd is holding a free screening event.
“As latest statistics show more than 6,500 people were diagnosed with mouth cancer in 2010, it’s really important that you follow the campaign message – if in doubt, get checked out.”
