A dedicated worker has been rewarded for his loyal service after completing 25 years with an Orby-based construction company.

Derek Coney has been a model employee at Elliott Construction throughout his time with the company.

Pipe layer Derek has worked in all weather conditions on building projects throughout the area and aged 68 has no plans to settle for a comfortable retirement.

The dad of two from Burgh le Marsh likes keeping active and enjoys the outdoor life.

Derek said: “I like the fresh air and would not like to sit at a desk in front of a computer all day. I started working in construction in 1973, it is what I have done all of my life and I have not got any plans to retire .”

Derek was presented with special cash bonus and a bouquet of flowers for wife Brenda by company founder and former managing director Tony Elliott earlier this month.

An avid American car enthusiast, Derek is putting the money towards importing a Cadillac Eldorado from the United States.

Company directors James Garraway, Kane Elliott and Sara Elliott praised Derek’s contribution.

Sara said : “Derek is a great employee and could count on one hand the number of times he has been off work. He is very good with the young lads and always ready to help.”
