Shoplifting crack-down for Skegness

A crack-down on shoplifting in Skegness has been announced by police following a recent rise in the crime.

Skegness Police’s Operation Mansel will involve high visibility uniformed patrols and covert surveillance operations in the run-up to Christmas.

Operation coordinator PC Laura Danby said: “Anyone thinking they can make easy money by coming to Skeness and stealing from the town’s stores should be warned - we are watching you and you will face the consequences of your actions.”

The initiative will involve a partnership between the police, the CCTV office and the Shopwatch radio scheme, targeting the most affected business in the town.

PC Danby added: “Food shops have been particularly targeted recently.

“High value items such as meat and cheese are stolen and then sold on as well as un-tagged alcohol products like wine.

“As Christmas approaches the shops will be getting busier and our aim is to combat the seasonal rise in theft offences that tends to occur at this time.”
