Lincolnshire Police say they are now gravely concerned for the welfare of 83-year-old Marion Scott who went missing from her home in Acre Close, Market Rasen last Thursday evening (December 27).
Inspector Michelle McIlroy, who is leading the continuing search for Marion today (Saturday, December 29), said that as far as they know, Marion was not dressed to withstand the wet and cold when she left home.
“The last two nights have been wet, cold and windy and unless Marion has found shelter we fear for her welfare,” she said.
“Willingham Woods just outside the centre of Market Rasen has been the centre of our ground searches but we have also had officers knocking on doors in the Market Rasen area showing Marion’s photograph and asking for sightings.
“So far we have had two reports of sightings which match Marion’s description and that was on the evening of the day she disappeared (Thursday 27th) and within ¾ mile of her home,” said Michelle.
In addition to the ground searches, a police helicopter with heat-seeking equipment has been used and social media is being used to alert members of Farmwatch and Neighbourhood Watch in the Market Rasen area.
The police are also asking anyone in the area, whether farmers or houses with land and who have outbuildings to check those areas for Marion and to report anything suspicious to the police by dialling 101.
Officers, police dog teams, police support units, Louth Rescue Dogs and other volunteer services have been searching the woods both on foot and in 4x4 vehicles for any trace of Marion.
“We have a family liaison officer with Marion’s husband, Douglas who is obviously extremely distressed at his wife’s disappearance,” added Inspector McIlroy. “We know that Marion suffers from dementia and sometimes has trouble remembering even her name and address.
“We are urgently appealing for anyone who thinks they may have seen Marion to contact us on 101 or even 999 if they think they see her wandering.”
Marion is described as around 5ft 4in tall, of slight build with short black hair. She was wearing brown cord trousers, grey slip-on shoes and a green top. It is thought she was wearing a pink jacket.
