Illegal workers face deportation

ILLEGAL workers are facing deportation after being caught during a raid on a takeaway restaurant which may now have to pay fines of up to £20,000.

Two Pakistani men were arrested after a raid by the UK Border Agency on the Fantasy Spice Grill at the Fantasy Island coastal theme park in Ingoldmells.

Paul, Tranter, from the UK Border Agency’s Boston-based team said: “Any business that takes on a foreign national without permission to work should be aware that it is breaking the as as well as undermining law-abiding employers.

“Rogue employers should be warned that they face heavy fines and could end up in jail.

“We will continue to crack down on companies that employ illegal workers and fail to carry out proper checks on passports and other identity documents.

“We urge the public to get in touch with us if they have any information about suspected immigration abuse.”

The two men arrested were a 28-year-old who had overstayed his visit visa and a 40-year-old who was identified as a failed asylum seeker.

The UK Border Agency has instigated action to deport both men as soon as possible.

Officers carried out the raid on the restaurant on Sea Land, Ingoldmells on Thursday. May 12, acting on intelligence they had gathered.

The business has been issued with an on the spot penalty notice and may face a fine of up to £20,000. To avoid this, it must prove to the UK Border Agency that it carried out the correct pre-employment checks on its staff.
