THE Best School and Top Cop Junior PCSO Awards have been presented to county youngsters.

Lincolnshire Police has been running a Junior Police Cadet School Officer Scheme since 2008 and this year around 173 children from 45 primary schools took part.

The scheme is designed to enable local neighbourhood policing teams to get to know and work with youngsters of primary school age. Together, they work through set tasks and explore ways of reducing crime and community safety issues.

This year All Saints School at North Hykeham won the Best Performing School Award.

Children in the Junior PCSO scheme have to prepare an election speech stating why they should be given the honour of becoming a role model for Lincolnshire Police.

It is then for the remaining children to vote on who they feel should support them in their school community.

Points are awarded through out the year for JPCSOs completing tasks and dealing with local issues. The schools also have a Listening Box, where pupils can drop worries into, anonymously if they prefer.

The JPCSOs each wear a yellow vest and have a pocket notebook and pen to symbolise the importance of their role.
