Councillors have requested a special meeting to consider the sale of the Pier Field site on Skegness seafront.

Members of the Skegness Area Committee supported the motion put forward by Coun Chris Pain at a meeting on Monday, It calls for East Lindsey District Council to hold a public meeting on the proposed sale of the land, which could be the location of a Premier Inn hotel and KFC restaurant.

Members of the council’s Executive Board had been poised to decide whether to sell the site last week, before a last minute intervention by campaigners.

The Save the Foreshore group requested the land be registered as a ‘community asset’ and the council has up to eight weeks to decide the application.

No date has been set for a meeting to consider the sale.
