East Lindsey District Council has granted a Skegness company £22,725 through its Rural Development Fund to help it expand and create new jobs.

Carter Signs was established by Pryam Carter on Grantham Road, Skegness in 2001.

The successful company employed two people but needed two new pieces of sign-making equipment to be able to produce items of a higher quality and faster than previously possible to keep up with increasing orders.

The £22,725 grant equates to 75% of the total cost of the project with the remainder funded by the company itself.

It enabled Mr Carter to buy the new equipment and train existing staff. And, due to the success of the project Mr Carter has now employed a third member of staff and is advertising for an apprentice to join the growing company.

Portfolio Holder for Economic Development, Councillor Craig Leyland, said: “This shows what a difference the Rural Development Grants programme can make to a successful growing company like Carter Signs and how important the Rural Development Fund really is. It has not just enabled the company to buy a piece of equipment, it has facilitated training for existing staff, protected those jobs and created employment for another two local people. I wish Mr Carter and his team every success in the future.”

Owner of Carter Signs, Pryam Carter added: “I believe the Rural Development Fund is important to small businesses that have ambition as it gives them the confidence to go out and build their business with less worries about financial problems. It lets them concentrate fully on the important factors that will make their business work. Since installing the new equipment I have been able to take on more orders with customers always commenting on the quality of the finished item. This has also enabled me to take on new staff members.”
