Skegness Partnership appoint Town Manager

Skegness appointed a new Town Manager this week.

Lisa Collins began her role on Monday and her aim is to work on behalf of the Skegness Partnership to move the town forwards, towards a position of longer term financial sustainability within two years.

Working through the proposed development of a Business Improvement District (BID), Lisa will work with lead economic development partners and organisations to support a programme of additional events and activities that will add value to the trading conditions for local businesses in Skegness.

Lisa was born and educated in Skegness and is delighted to be back living in her hometown. She has previously worked for Lincolnshire County Council in project and contract management, community development and engagement and commissioning of services.

Previously, Lisa has worked with local business communities, the voluntary and statutory sector and is looking forward to once again working with the Skegness community.

Her main focus is to get to know the local business community to find out what

would enhance and improve trading in Skegness.

“Through extensive and meaningful consultation the Partnership and I will draw up a draft BID proposal to take forward to the local identified business area.

We are a prime UK seaside town and we need to move with the times to ensure Skegness doesn’t get left behind, I will seek out new funding opportunities to help maximise local resources.

We need to be innovative, resourceful and creative to build on the visitor experience and attract a wider target group of visitors,” said Lisa.

“Skegness is a great community to live and work in, however much could be enhanced and developed. I am looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead, I am very keen to start some consultation work with the local community to listen to the voice of local residents, including children and young people who are the future of our town,” she said.

Lisa is keen to promote the town as the drier side of Britain and maximise this through the media and says she will be developing greater social media networks for Skegness, citing it as an important aspect of marketing.

“Tourists, day trippers and local residents want and expect up to date information at the touch of a button,” added Lisa.

The new Town Manager believes the media is an invaluable tool in maximising the success of events, promoting Skegness attractions and events to residents too.

Lisa said: “Mary Portas is quoted as saying, ‘much can be achieved with communication, collaboration and compromise’, and I think this is true and I would welcome anyone to come along to meetings and events to promote what a BID is, to ensure everyone understands the importance of this to help secure and enhance the future of the Skegness business and trading community. I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible over the coming weeks and months”.

One local resident who is sure to want to meet Lisa is Skegness Coun Mark Anderson, who, speaking previously to the Standard on the arrival of a ninth charity shop opening in the town, said: “I’m very much concerned about the offering on Lumley Road. Hopefully the new Town Centre Manager will pick this up and revitalise our town.”
