Closure of a Skegness leisure centre’s outdoor pool during hot spells causes confusion.

The outdoor pool.

The community have been left wondering why The Embassy outdoor swimming pool has been closed during recent hot weather in Skegness.

But according to East Lindsey District Council, it has ‘historically’ only been opened from the last Saturday in June until the first Sunday in September.

One resident wrote on the Facebook group Skegness Skegness, “What’s the point of a leisure centre when we cannot keep our outdoor pool open when we still have great weather and people who want to use it?

They felt it was an ‘error’ by the council and down to ‘money’, they added: “It is no wonder this town gets slated the pool I thought is also for locals, I guess not if they closed it because the season is over.”

Another resident wrote: “It’s a shame the outdoor pool was closed today [Monday, September 2] I was going to bring the kids as a last day out before they return to school, I think they could have had a few more days before closing for the end of the season.”

Councillor Adam Grist, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, said on the issue: “The Embassy Outdoor Swimming Pool has historically opened from the last Saturday in June until the first Sunday in September. This year we opened the pool to include Spring Bank Holiday week and then weekends until the end of June.

“Sadly, it isn’t possible to extend the opening based on the weather, as we have to take a long-term view on opening times. Our decision takes into account average attendances in previous years and we then plan accordingly.”
