A care home in Skegness is flying the Irish flag today to have celebrate St Patrick’s Day with a good old singsong.

Vocalists Cherry Wilkinson and Sylvia Hall got the party started at Syne Hills Care Home by leading the singing.

The event was part of the home’s programme to use music to stimulate residents who have dementia.

Cherry and Sylvia travel to homes around the county to entertain residents in this way.

Christopher Sweeney, Syne Hills Care Home owner, said: “Music works really well with residents. One lady wouldn’t be able to remember things from a few minutes ago but she is singing along.

“Cherry and Sylvia are very good at engaging with the residents and making everyone feel included.

“We go all out to celebrate St Patrick’s Day because my mother is Irish. We also have an Irish resident, Mary Hennessy, who will soon be celebrating her 100th birthday.”

The Union Flag will be flying on April 23, when the home celebrates St George’s Day.
