A petition signed by more than 5,000 people calling for Pier Field in Skegness to be listed a community asset is being handed in to East Lindsey District Council today (Monday, February 9).

The council’s Executive was due to consider the sale of the seafront site tomorrow (Tuesday), which could be the site for a Premier Inn hotel and KFC restaurant.

Members of the Save our Foreshore group say they have reached the target of 1,400 pledges of support from East Lindsey residents requiring the issue to be addressed at a meeting of the full council.

A decision on the sale was postponed last month after the group submitted an application for the land to be registered as a community asset.

Co-chairman Russell Sparkes said: “There a 5,027 signatures on the petition, with 2,250 pledges of support from local people. I am very pleased with the response and the campaign is continuing.”
