VIDEO: Dakota flyby heralds departure of Olympic Torch from Skegness

Waiting for Video...

HUNDREDS of thousands of people flocked to local towns and villages this morning to witness a little piece of history.

The Olympic Torch Relay brought people onto the street in their droves when it arrived on the east cost on Wednesday.

Each local town did itself proud when the torch passed through - with rousing receptions for the torchbearers all along the route.

And the scenes in Skegness were spectacular - with the streets chock full of visitors and residents eager to get a glimpse of the torch upon its arrival.

Torchbearer Starr Halley, 15, brought the torch into Skegness shortly after midday, where she was greeted by cheering throngs.

This was followed by a a spectacular parade down Grand Parade and Lumley Avenue and a colourful explosion of confetti and ticker-tape at the Clock Tower.

The torch left Skegness on its way to Wainfleet and Boston shortly after 1.15pm - and was given a fitting send-off in the form of flybys by a Dakota and a Typhoon fighter jet.
