THE grand opening of a new-look bar in Skegness helped to raise over £800 for a local animal sanctuary.

And for one lucky reveller the evening was a ’sparkling’ success.

Manager Sarah Garnett is joined my Mayor Councillor Steve Kirk and his wife Cath for the ribbon cutting ceremony that marked the opening of the bar.

For Sarah How was the lucky winner of a £1,000 diamond in a giveaway to mark the bar’s launch night.

The competition saw flutes of champagne given away to early arrivals at the pub. Each had a fake diamond attached to it, with one lucky stone proving to be the real deal.

A dimaond expert was on hand to appraise the stones as the champagne was consumed.

And Sarah couldn’t believe her luck when she was told she’d picked up the dazzling diamond.

Speaking immediately after her win, Sarah said: “I can’t really believe it to be honest. I don’t know what I’m going to do with it yet.”

Elsewhere the evening also raised money for the Radcliffe Donkey Sanctuary at Huttoft. Revellers paid £2 to get into the charity night, with proceeds going towards the good cause. The cash is still being counted. We will update the story when the figure is revealed.

Meanwhile, Yates’s manager, Sarah Garnett, is confident the new look bar will prove a winner with residents and visitors alike.

She said: “The team and I are excited about the launch of Yates’s.

“The brand is synonymous with partying and best on the high street food and drinks deals and Skegness Yates will certainly live up to that.

“We aim to offer our customers the perfect lunchtime or early evening destination for tasty, quality food at affordable prices but also the number one place to enjoy a party by night in a fun, yet safe environment.”

All of the former Litten Tree staff have retained their jobs following the bar’s £150,000 refit.

The pub is open from 9am every day and will be offering breakfast daily.

For the first month Sarah has promised free toast to anyone enjoying breakfast at the pub. Offers will also include two meals for £8.95, a Monday special for just £2.99 and childrens meal for just £2.50 including a drink.
