X Factor stars Union J were surprise visitors to Chapel St Leonards on Friday - for a special gig organised in just one day by Lincs FM.
The stars had heard about the station’s month long Big Month Out initiative, which has seen it attempt to visit almost 50 locations across Lincolnshire and Newark, and said they’d like to get involved.
JJ from the band called up breakfast show presenter Sam Kirk and said they’d like to join the Big Month Out team on the coast that day - and perform an exclusive gig just for listeners.
Club Tropicana offered its venue for the teatime performance but, just hours before arriving, not a single ticket had been handed out.
The station had already planned to be in Skegness, broadcasting live from the Pier, so asked listeners - on a first come basis - to go see them, say the words “Lincs FM Gig” and claim their ticket for the event.
The queues were huge, with some fans ‘camping out’ for hours.
The station produced two outside broadcasts - a four hour show from Skegness and then a further four hours from backstage of the gig.
Lincs FM’s Director of Programming Sean Dunderdale said: “To produce two live shows from the coast, plus a mini gig was certainly a challenge.
“It’s amazing to think at 8am no-one had a clue what we were planning yet by 5pm the venue was packed with over 600 people watching Union J.
“It’s the last bank holiday of the summer and we wanted to do something extra special for the Lincolnshire Coast. Everyone’s been delighted with the response.”
