Switch-on preparations ramp up
THE organisers behind the Skegness Illuminations switch-on have released full details of this year’s event as preparations continue to gear up ahead of the big day.
This year’s event is set to take place on August 4, with an action-packed day of activities from 1pm to 10pm.
Daytime entertainment will include music from Warren Dewitt, Zumba & Street Dance Workshops, the talented solo artist George Damms, the Janice Sutton Dancers, Richmond Liners, Punch & Judy and the Earthbound Misfits.
“Fondly known as ‘probably the worst jugglers in the world’ the Earthbound Misfits will amaze children and adults alike with their crazy antics during the afternoon,” said a spokesperson.
“If you fancy trying your hand at circus skills, join the Earthbound Misfits for an hour long circus skills workshop in front of Panda’s Place.
“Lincs FM’s John Marshall will be with us from 6pm when the evening events begin with a lively and colourful parade which will travel along Grand Parade and make its way onto Tower Esplanade.
“As the crowds begin to gather Butlin’s Redcoats really get the children going with their much loved dances and audience participation.
“A great line up of entertainers is planned for the rest of the evening with Taiko Drummers, the incredibly entertaining Men in Shorts, Janice Sutton Dancers, and lots lots more,” they added.
The second of the day’s parades will take place around 8:40pm when Hollyoaks celebrities Kieron Richardson and Stephanie Davis will board the boats on the Skegness Waterways and make their way to the stage area for the official opening and the switch on event followed by a fireworks display.
“The big red button is shipshape and ready to go so please join us for a truly magnificent event on Tower Esplanade,” added the spokesperson.
“The area is closed to traffic all day long so you can sit back and enjoy the show without worrying about the children. This year we are encouraging parents to grab a Skegness Switched On wristband for your little ones on which you can write your mobile number just in case they decide to go walkabouts!
“Come along and join the party.”
The event is being organised by SECWHA working in partnership with ELDC, The Pier, Grand Central, Botton’s Pleasure Beach, The Hildreds Centre, Skegness & District Chamber of Commerce, Skegness Partnership and Skegness Town Council.
