Superfast broadband is greenlit
SUPERFAST broadband will be available to all Lincolnshire homes and businesses in the next five years after the county council’s plans received government approval.
The technological improvements made possible through £57 million of public and private investment are hoped to drive forward economic growth in the county.
Coun Colin Davie has welcomed the news. He said: “High speed broadband is essential for Lincolnshire if it is to progress as a modern county with a proper technology infrastructure. It is an absolute priority and I am delighted that we are now progressing the project with a clear timetable to deliver it.”
The proposals will see 90 per cent of properties receiving superfast speeds of at least 24 Mb/second by 2015, with the rest guaranteed at least two Mb/second and by 2017 everyone will have superfast broadband throughout the county.
To demonstrate to commercial suppliers of broadband technology that there is a demand for the service, residents are urged to register at www.onlincolnshire.org
