CONCERNS have been raised over the future of the Spilsby market if proposals for an ‘additional Mablethorpe market’ day are accepted.
Spilsby Town Councillors spoke of plans they had heard circulating about the possibility of the seaside town having another day which they fear could conflict with other towns.
It is thought, Mablethorpe would like to have another market day during the summer months to cater for the tourist trade as well as the date it already holds.
Coun Phil Odling, speaking at the full council meeting held last Thursday, expressed his concern over the additional date saying, that the original markets, including Spilsby, were chartered.
Coun Odling also expressed that the town council should write a letter to East Lindsey District Council regarding the adverse affects it could have on the other markets which are also there by charter.
Councillors also held debate regarding Mablethorpe’s need to apply for ‘planning permission’ and the fact that ELDC would ‘not close the road in the town twice a week’.
