Skegness firms in mobile app push

AN INNOVATIVE new marketing device, utilising smartphone technology to cross the divide between internet and highstreet shopping, launches in Skegness tomorrow.

The TikTap Discovery App, which sends deals to customers’ phones, enticing them to visit shops, restaurants and other attractions, will be on display to businesses and shoppers at the Hildreds Centre from Thursday until Monday.

Town manager Stafan Krause said: “We know that Skegness is an attractive destination and with TikTap we can demonstrate how much our town centre and all its attractions and restaurants have to offer.”

Mr Krause has been instrumental in ensuring Skegness is one of the first towns in the UK to embrace TikTap with support from Skegness Partnership, The Hildreds Centre, Skegness and District Chamber of Commerce, SECHWA, the Embassy Theatre and East Lindsey District Council.

The TikTap Lounge event will demonstrate to businesses how the system works, what benefits they can expect to see and how they can sign up, while customers can learn how to install the app on their phone and make the most of the deals on offer throughout the town.

In celebration of the launch, The Jolly Fisherman and other mascots will attend, games and giveaways will take place and there will be food and refreshments provided courtesy of Bateman’s, Cottage Loaf and Coffee Contor.

Further festivities have been planned for Friday, July 27, to coincide with the London 2012 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony.

As Skegness is one of the quickest towns to implement the new technology, TikTap has offered £18,000 of free hardware and membership to businesses signing up.

TikTap’s Mark Barnes said: “Skegness Partnership ELDC and the Hildred’s Centre provided us with so much support that TikTap has chosen Skegness to launch the national first ‘TikTap Lounge.’”

Mr Krause hopes the early uptake will portray Skegness as a dynamic, forward-thinking shopping destination to entice visitors from near and far.

The Hildred’s Centre’s Steve Andrews said: “Our shops in the Hildred’s Centre are leading the way in mobile phone technology as they have all the latest mobile phones, networks and accessories in stock.

“TikTap is the new world of contactless mobile coupons and voucher redemption at point of sale - years ahead of any other customer loyalty schemes.”
