Roman Bank Sewage works ‘on track’ for completion

SEWAGE repair works, which closed a busy Skegness road through the height of the summer season, are on track for their extended completion date, Anglian Water has announced.

The water company began essential repairs to the sewer pipes beneath Roman Bank in June, with an initial completion date set for the end of July.

Due to the severity of the pipe damage, however, the schedule was extended by 10 weeks, prompting outrage from local businesses who feared their trade would be decimated during the busiest weeks of the year.

Anglian Water has now announced that the works are on track for completion by the end of September.

A spokesperson said: “Our teams have done a fantastic job to do this as quickly as they have.

“The sewers in the area were in a very bad condition and required a considerable amount of work to be made safe.

“The work on the pipes themselves has been completed so at the moment we are repairing the damage to the road surface.”

Businesses who claim to have suffered a reduction in trade due to the traffic closures, however, fear the damage has already been done and expressed their disappointment at the speed of which the work has been carried out.

Owner of Grill House, Mohammed Raouf said: “As a newly opened restaurant, we’ve really suffered due to these ongoing works - I can’t understand how they would take so long.”

Anglian water has expressed its sympathies to the affected businesses but explained that the work could not have been delayed any further without risking a road collapse and possible injuries to the public.

The spokesperson added. “We appreciate how inconvenient this has been but putting it off was not an option.”
