Olympian to headline Wolds Words Festival
AN Olympic hero is set to headline this year’s Wolds Words Festival along with some of the country’s best literary icons.
This diverse and occasionally cheeky literary festival, organised by East Lindsey District Council, will take place from October 17 to 21 and promises to once again transform Louth and its surrounding area into a literature hotspot.
Combining literature heavy-weights with local talent, this year’s exciting line-up of events, many of which are free of charge, ensures that there is something for everyone.
Local residents and visitors will have opportunity to meet sporting hero, Mark Foster who is a five times Olympian, six times World Champion, ten times World Record holder, two times Commonwealth Champion and the man who led Team GB at the Olympic Ceremony in Beijing.
The former swimmer, now BBC presenter, will host an evening talking about his sporting career, as well as giving his views on the London Olympics. To ensure that no question is left unanswered the audience will have the opportunity to take part in a question and answer session.
Aspiring writers can take part in two intensive day-long workshops, and will have the chance to pick up the best tips and advice from a literary agent who will share her knowledge on how to get your own work published.
For the bigger local picture, BBC Radio Lincolnshire’s Farming presenter, Alan Stennent, will also be giving an illustrated talk on the changes seen in agriculture over the past 100 years, and what this means for the future of farming.
Other highlights of this year’s festival include a great comedy line-up, including the hilarious act ‘The Boy With Tape On His Face’ who passes the barriers of language and culture in a hysterical show which promises to keeping you laughing. Children will also be entertained with a wide variety of creative workshops such as stop-motion animation and pop-up book-making sessions.
Lincolnshire Champion for the London 2012 Olympics, Councillor Doreen Stephenson, said: “This year’s Wolds Words festival is set to be better than ever. In a year that our nation hosted the greatest ever Olympic Games ever, East Lindsey is once again championing the Olympic spirit and I hope everyone will celebrate this fantastic event.
“Not only will it bring visitors to the area, helping to boost our local economy, it will be a celebration for the whole community,” they added.
Tickets will be available from the Riverhead Theatre and Louth Library from Wednesday, September 26.
