Motor enthusiasts visiting Skegness are to be asked about holding official rallies in the resort.

Car and motorbike owners who have gathered unofficially in the town will be approached by a senior police officer about organising more formal events.

Inspector Andy Morrice received backing for the idea at a meeting of Skegness Town Council last week.

Insp Morrice said: “We could invite them to stay for a weekend, offer the use of a car park and organise a proper event. Controls could be put in place and have engines turned off at 10pm.”

Coun Maggie Gray said: “Anything that brings people to Skegness is a good thing, it should be open all year. A car rally would be brilliant for Skegness, bring out the enthusiasts who will spend money in the town. It is a spectacle that people would want to come and see.”
