Market concerns discussed

STALL-HOLDERS’ concerns about future plans for Spilsby Market are to be addressed by a new staff appointment, the district council has announced.

East Lindsey District Council met with traders again this week to discuss how markets throughout the district can be improved for visitors and stall-holders alike.

Portfolio holder for planning and the economy Coun Craig Leyland said: “The district council is keen to ensure the markets continue to thrive.

“We will continue to engage with the trades as

The discussions followed concerns raised by the traders after ELDC initially announced its proposals several months ago. Stall-holdes were keen to see the district council do more to promote markets and improve their management, which ELDC hopes to achieved through the appointment of a new operations support manager.

Spilsby Town Council has also written to ELDC asking it to promote the market more extensively and recruit additional traders to ensure a more vibrant atmosphere for visitors.

Mayor of Spilsby Coun Michael Lenton said: “The market traders were a bit concerned about lack of stall-holders in Spilsby.

“We feel the district council should give the market a higher profile from an advertising point of view and perhaps a campaign could be launched to recruit more traders.”
