ITV’s breakfast show Daybreak and TV presenter Denise van Outen stopped off in Skegness this morning (Tuesday) as the town’s publicity of this year’s SO Festival ratcheted up another gear.

The camera crews took to the beach during the show, along with over 100 local people, for zumba sessions in the bright early sunshine.

East Lindsey District Council’s communication officer, James Gilbert, said the appearance of ITV camera crews was a vindication of the authority’s controversial SO Festival advertising campaign, which had disparaged other notable resorts as part of a bid to raise awareness of the town.

He said: “Daybreak’s presence was fantastic. It was a really good outcome from our controversial campaign.

“About 100 local zumba fans took part in the show, the sun shone and showed why Skegness is such a brilliant place to visit.

“Skegness looked brilliant in the morning shunshine. Daybreak said that Skegness had been a great place to visit and that they’d definitely be suggesting coming back in future years to their producers.”

He added that he would like to thank everyone who had taken part in the zumba session.
