A NUMBER of famous actors have been signed up to appear in a nationwide advertising campaign which includes footage of Skegness in the promotion of Britain as a tourist destination.
VisitEngland, the national tourist board has recruited four top actors to front the television debut, ‘Holidays at Home are GREAT’, aimed at boosting domestic tourism throughout the UK.
Stephen Fry, Julie Walters, Rupert Grint and Michelle Dockery start shooting the television ad this week due to air on March 8, which will kick off the country’s biggest ever domestic tourism campaign.
The actors will take part in the advertisement spanning the whole country, and shooting is currently taking place at iconic locations across the UK, coordinated by VisitEngland’s advertising agency M&CSAATCHI.
As reported, (February 8), in addition to the main advert, a series of additional 10 second ads will be shot in a number of destinations.
In return for £100,000, to be match funded by VisitEngland, the places include, Skegness, Blackpool, Yorkshire, Merseyside and Birmingham which will be showcased as part of the campaign.
Coun Craig Leyland, East Lindsey District Council’s Portfolio Holder for the Economy, said: “It was important that VisitEngland recruited some high profile celebrities to ensure the national advertising campaign has impact and they have done just that. 2012 is an exciting opportunity to promote our area far and wide and we must seize the opportunities presented to us so we can boost our economy and attract more visitors to the area.”
The campaign, led by VisitEngland, and supported by the home nation tourist boards of Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland; and London, will showcase the country and highlight the key events taking place including the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Torch Relay, the Cultural Festival and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
Jeremy Hunt, Secretary of State, said: “This will be an incredibly exciting year, and the UK will be the very best place in the whole world to holiday. It’s thrilling that four of our best-loved actors are joining the campaign to get even more of us holidaying at home.”
The campaign is aimed at inspiring more residents to take a holiday in the UK this year, the advertisements will also feature a website offering thousands of special deals worth at least 20.12 per cent off.
