A glittering new darts tournament is arrowing its way into Skegness with thousands of pounds worth of prize money up for grabs.
The Marine Boathouse will host a darts series competition with the potential to win £13,000 - which orgnaisers hope will pull in some of the best players in the country.
A £10,000 prize fund is guaranteed and if there is a nine-dart check out on the finals weekend, there will be an extra £3,000 bonus to be won.
There will be 16 knock out heats of 64 maximum entry’s, starting on September 13, this year.
Dean Gillison of the Marine Boathouse said: “We are hoping that this event will bring a significant amount of people into the town throughout the quieter months of the year. I have recently been in talks with people from all across the country that have been drawn into my massive prize fund which is up for grabs”.
“I am confident that the large prize fund will attract some of the best dart players across the county and country. We as a family are passionate about drumming up more trade and keeping Skegness a regular holiday destination for families and other clientele. The winter months are very long and hard for myself and many other businesses and hoteliers,” he added.
Tournament organiser Chris Fletcher said: “This is a huge event, not only for the Marine Boathouse, but also for the town itself. The massive prize fund has excited the UKs darting community and I’m quietly confident of attracting overseas players too.”
The grand final will be held on the weekend of February 28, 2015.
Each weekly winner will receive £100 and automatic entry to the final weekend.
And that is where the big money is, with £5,000 to the eventual winner. The runner-up will receive £1,000 and the losing semi-finalists will get £400 each.
The quarter finalists £200, and first round losers £100.
The final weekend will see all games taking place on stage in the main bar, with professional MC and walk on music for all players to give the event and the players the respect they deserve.
The tournaments running up to the final will take place in the basement of the Marine Boathouse’s large, newly refurbished, function room with eleven wall mounted dart boards.
Skegness darts players will not have to wait until September to get their flights out though, as there is to be a series of darts events throughout the season to show what the Marine’s purpose-built darts room can offer.
The Marine Boathouse knockout tournament will take place on May 10. This is £10 to enter, with all monies to be paid before the day.
The winner will receive £250, runner up £100 and £25.00 each to losing semi-finalists. Entries for this tournament have already attracted players from Sheffield, Rotherham and Nottingham.
To enter the £10,000 series competition it is £15 to register.
