A pony club in Wainfleet has been awarded funding to enable more people to try their hand at horse riding.

Willow Farm Pony Club Centre in Thorpe Fendykes was thrilled to hear that they have been awarded funding from Lincolnshire Sports Partnership, Sportivate, and the National Lottery to run six-week riding courses starting in April.

The funding is aimed at 11-25 year olds, in two groups - those who have not considered riding as a sport before and would like to ‘have a go’ and those who already ride but would like to access six weeks of extra coaching with a BHS Registered UKCC Coach.

The centre is one of the most successful in Area 6 and has had teams in the National Championships on several occasions lately.

Lora Hawkins, who runs the club at Willow Farm, said she was very excited about delivering the courses and particularly looking forward to working with secondary age children, who perhaps did not participate in the usual school sports, but would like to use this funding to try horse riding.

Ashleigh Rogan, a recent recruit to the pony club, who has only been at the centre a few months, recently won her first dressage competition.

l Further information can be obtained from Lucy Blakey at Lincolnshire Sports Partnership on 01522 585580 or Lora Hawkins at Willow Farm on 01754 830316.
