The latest Burgh Heritage meeting heard about the history of fairgrounds - from medieval times through to theme parks.
A DVD on the subject, shown by Norman Barker, caused the founder of the Heritage Group, John Panton, to recount his memories of the travelling fairs that came to Burgh.
He said: “There won’t be many people now living in Burgh who remember the excitement and anticipation there was in Burgh around May 4 each year. At dusk, as people filtered into the square, the lights around the stalls came on, music played, the carousel started giving rides and a happy magical atmosphere pervaded and carried on until after pub closing time.
He added that the fair stopped coming after Butlin’s opened.
In the Windmill Tea Room on Monday, November 25 at 7.30pm, John Panton will give a slide show of ‘A Tour of Israel’.
