TWO charitable friends are getting ready for an almighty bike ride to help raise money for a worthy cause.
Carl Rawlings, 21, of Skegness and Sean Kirby, 22, of Winthorpe have been training daily to get ready to cycle from Leicester Clock Tower to Skegness Clock Tower on March 17.
The 84.3 mile sponsored challenge will be raising funds for cancer support charity, Macmillan which the pair decided to help after Sean’s partner Sophie Farrell’s Grandma, Marion Anne Riddle died from the condition.
“My partner’s grandma died last August and we thought it would be good to raise money to support the charity which helped her in her time of need. I bike ride a lot to work and thought it might be an energetic but excellent way to do the challenge,” said Sean.
So far, the pair have raised around £700 and they both hope they can reach their target of £1,500 by the end of their challenge.
“We’ll have bucket collections on the day along Lumley Road and hopefully we’ll reach our grand total,” said Carl.
The Newera Gym, based on the Industrial Estate, Skegness has chosen to support the duo’s fund raising challenge as the gym has been used for a lot of the training during the snowy, harsh weather.
Richard Crow, Newera Gym owner, said: “Carl has been a member for a couple of years and Sean on and off, so I thought it was a good way to support a good cause.”
The fund raising location was chosen because of family connections and Sean once lived in the area.
“We’re hoping to set off about 5.30am-6am on the day from Leicester and we’ll hopefully be joined by a few friends,” added Sean. To sponsor Carl and Sean call or text 07561 211623.
