Singer Bex Johnson has taken the first steps to pop stardom appearing on The X Factor.
Bex, from Burgh le Marsh, is hoping that performing on the primetime ITV show will help propel her band Rouge Kiss to the big time.
Rouge Kiss appeared before 5,000 fans and the judges at Wembley Arena in the hit talent search.
Their performance of ‘Fancy’ by Iggy Azalea divided opinion among the judges with Simon Cowell labelling the band ‘ like Yorkshire Terriers wanting to be an Alsatian’. But Fellow judges Mel B, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Louis Walsh disagreed giving the girls a resounding ‘yes’ vote to send them through to the show’s boot camp, but didn’t progress any further.
Former Skegness Grammar School pupil Bex moved to London at 18 to study at Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts.
The classically trained singer joined the band earlier this year following a successful stage career in the West End and on tour.
Bex has been supported at the X Factor auditions by mum Alison and fiancée Wesley.
The band responded to Simon’s comments recording a song ‘Rouge Kiss Bites Back’.
Bex said: “Simon’s criticism, was really funny. He likes to play the bad guy, but off camera he was fine. I am a huge fan of the Spice Girls so it was amazing performing in front of Mel B and great that she liked us. I hope our group can be as successful.”
