An Essex-based artist is to donate the funds from one of his paintings to East Kirkby Aviation Centre.
Neil Higgs, who specialises in aviation painting has completed an artwork depicting Avro Lancaster BVII ‘Just Jane’, in a taxiing scene and has decided to use the funds from its sale to help support their work.
Neil visited the East Kirkby Aviation Centre when he visited on a trip run by Bedfordshire’s Shuttleworth Veteran Aeroplane Society, where he is a member of.
Neil said: “Having enjoyed my visit to the friendly, well-run centre in East Kirkby, I was originally going to donate some money, however to add a more personal touch, felt it would be better to paint them a picture to be auctioned off.”
The painting will be auctioned off throughout the year with all proceeds of the winning bid, going to the aviation centre and the upkeep of resident aircraft, Just Jane.
Andrew Panton of East Kirky Aviation Centre said: “We’re very grateful to Neil for presenting the artwork and the donations will help with the continued restoration of the Lancaster.”
The painting is on a 1000mm x 500mm deep edge canvas and is completed in oils.
The artwork was delivered to the aviation centre, on Monday, April 21, to be signed by Harold Panton, Andrew Panton and Louise Bush of the family-run museum.
Neil added: “I would like to thank resident photographer Martin King, who provided me with detailed pictures of Just Jane to help me paint her.”
