The Railway Tavern at Aby has raised hundreds for charity in the past month after backing the Community Pubs Campaign.
As well as being part of the national CAMRA Pubs and Charity campaign highlighting the importance of pubs and the work they do for charity, the Tavern has also generated cash for causes such as Help for Heroes, When You Wish Upon a Star and the Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance.
The pub kicked things off early with Armed Forces Day and raised £207.04 for Help for Heroes with a special quiz and ‘Rock and Roll Bingo’, as well as some “Forces” pies - the homemade pies were sold with a donation from the sale of each going to the charity.
The bar also held a summer raffle early in July. This time the fundraising was in aid of When you Wish Upon a Star and the air ambulance.
At the end of the month, the summer raffle was drawn, It raised £289.68.
Dawn Jacklin, licensee of The Railway Tavern, said: “We aim to raise £2,000 a year for charity, but these events have helped boost this amount. We are grateful to all our locals for their continued support.”
She added that their book ‘The Story So Far’, which looks back at their decade at the Tavern has raised roughly £600.
“Another reprint has been ordered to fulfil demand.”
“It has been wonderful the response and comments from readers who have enjoyed their copy. I have even had to sign some copies.”
The book is to celebrate the 10th anniversary year of Dawn, Keith and Holly’s time at The Railway Tavern – they are priced at £12.00 and are available from the pub itself.
