Friday, 9.20am - A WOMAN who was seen walking in the street in the early hours with a knife in her hand was sprayed with CS gas by police, magistrates heard.
Roberta Hayes was twice told to drop the knife but had ignored the officer's request, the court was told.

Hayes, 39, of 23 Hudson Way, Skegness, admitted having a small bladed kitchen knife in Lincoln Road, Skegness.

Magistrates sentenced her to a community order of 12 months' supervision. She was ordered to pay £60 costs.

Prosecutor Jim Clare told the court at 3.50am on October 10 police went to Brunswick Drive, Skegness where they were told a woman had thrown a brick at a front window.

Officers saw a woman walking along Lincoln Road and noticed she was carrying a small knife in her right hand, with the blade pointing away from her.

One of the officers shouted twice she should drop the knife but she failed to do so. She stopped and her expression led the officer to believe she might use the knife, said Mr Clare.

She was CS sprayed in the face and her wrist was grabbed, causing her to drop the knife.

In interview she admitted she had been heavily intoxicated.

She said the knife was not for protection and not to threaten anyone with.

Terry Vamplew, representing Hayes, said his client had a depressive illness and mental health issues. She was in contact with the local mental health team and her GP.

Hayes had been out drinking with a friend and had returned to the friend's house. She was intoxicated and following an argument she left, taking this small knife with her.

She thought she might have been going to self harm, said Mr Vamplew.
