Saturday, 9am - AN exciting TV channel aimed at promoting health and wellbeing has been introduced into schools and children's centres in Skegness and Wainfleet.

The Life Channel is a TV network which has been operating in doctors' surgeries, clinics and pharmacies for six years giving information about health, diet and fitness.

In February last year the channel extended into schools at a launch attended by former Prime Minister Tony Blair.

Now the channel will be on display at Skegness and Wainfleet Children's Centres and The Richmond School, Skegness.

Darren Quilty, of the channel, said: "Television is a medium children identify with. Using television for learning within the school environment is not a new concept as we have used TV in schools as a media for years.

"This is a 21st Century take on a proven communication tool."

Staff at the schools and centres will be taught how to update the channel and use it effectively with the children.

Each school or centre will also be able to create its own material for the channel which allows it to focus on its own core issues.

The Life Channel team will update the network monthly to make sure all aspects of health and wellbeing are being covered.

Manager of the childrens centres Coralie Armstrong said: "I think it's brilliant and I think more people will be coming on board soon. There's a possibility all the children's centres in Lincolnshire will do it.

"It's a way of educating parents without their realising because they will watch it while they wait for their children and will pick things up without noticing.

"It's also for the children because there are short films about cooking with parents, being safe, exercise and being healthy."

The centre will be making its own films about what the centre does within the community so the TV will also be used as a tool to promote its work.

The Life Channel is suitable for all primary, secondary schools as well as universities, colleges, YMCA's and children's centres.
