Published Date: 08 May 2008
Friday, 9.30am - MISLEADING weather forecasts were a concern at the annual town meeting on Wednesday.
Coun Sue Binch said she had received a number of complaints TV and radio weather forecasts had been wrong over the May bank holiday weekend which had put visitors off coming to the resort.

She said: "They all said it would rain but we've had some fantastic weather.

"Businesses are down and they're telling me its because of the weather forecasts.

"They seem to get it wrong quite a number of times. Its concerning because people look at the weather forecast the night before to decide whether to come of not."

Councillors and members of the public agreed it had been a problem affecting Skegness for a number of years.

Mayor Coun Ken Milner said he remembered when Coun Harold Fainlight used to call the radio stations every day to tell them what the weather was like to ensure they got the right message.

Coun Binch offered to do the same.

Coun Brian O'Connor said Skegness' weather used to be reported in the national press every day to show what the previous day had been like. He thought it was a shame this had not been kept up by East Lindsey District Council.

He suggested the town council should put the weather on its website each day, and think about getting it advertised in the national press again.
