Monday, 4.14pm - ICE rink developer Jason Mott has defended his business idea to critics who say it is just for tourists.
Mr Mott plans to run a synthetic ice rink on Grand Parade, Skegness, after being inspired along with business partners Steve Vardy and Mark Elvin, by a front page story in the Skegness Standard.

In the original story five campaigning teenagers put together a petition asking for an ice rink after they were frustrated at the lack of facilities.

Mr Mott has responded to critics of his plans who say the facility should be run all year round and not just in the summer for holidaymakers.

He said: "We will be subsidising it to keep it here in the winter. We want to be here all year. It is for the locals. It is the locals who gave us the idea.

"We are wanting the community to come back to us with different ideas of keeping it going through the winter months."

Mr Mott said he hoped to get community groups involved and will offer discount prices. He also hopes to organise ice hockey tournaments also.

He added he was looking at providing a roof so the ice rink could be used all year round.

If you have any ideas for the rink or are a community group wanting to use the facility visit the rink and speak to the staff there.
