Tuesday, 4.45pm - A CHARITY collector from Skegness pleaded guilty on Friday to stealing around £1,000 from funds he collected for Guide Dogs for the Blind.
Barry Oates, 57, of Sandbeck Avenue, is almost completely blind himself, and Skegness Magistrates' Court heard he had been collecting for the charity for 10 years without problem.

But between January 2008 and July 2009, money had gone missing, and Oates' solicitor Sasha Waxman explained he had taken it because he and his wife were struggling financially.

She said he took the money in partial sums to cover rent and loan payments. She explained he had intended to pay it back when he sold his mobility car, but this took longer than expected.

A friend of Oates has offered to pay back the money within two weeks, and the magistrates said this would be taken into account when he is sentenced.

They asked for more reports and ordered him to return on January 4.
